Will a small inner arm tattoo effect my future jobs?

future jobs
greenmann123 asked:

I turned 18 in december and i have always wanted a tattoo. i have drawn one that i want on my left arm, in the place where people normally get armband tats. But i cant get that one until i graduate (this june) because i will be going to the beach with my family in may. My mom doesn’t care but my dad would flip. So i decided to get another one but not quite as big on my inner left arm (a nautical star). And i was wondering if this would effect me getting a job in the future. I want to be a civil engineer and i plan to go to UNCC next fall.
Edit:
Thanks all of this has helped me a lot. But honestly for those of you who told me not to get it just because it was a “hype” i have reasons for getting this. I want this and have been wanting this for at least 5 years. I love my dad and all but more than half the time he never agrees with me, even if i am right. He just disagrees with the things i say because he thinks that his son can’t be smarter than him. So in a way it is sorta out of rebellion. Another reason is that for many people the nautical star means *** pride. It does for me. And i know im going to get a lot of arguement on this one but it means different things to different people. so if u have one and arent *** that doesnt mean the same for you. But for me it does. Also i was thinkin of having the number 13 layered over top of it to make it less generic, and because it is my lucky number.

dont do it. hurting yourself for some ink on your skin is not worth it, unless it’s a part of ur culture which i dont think it is.

it probably would. and why get something if ur gonna have to cover it up later? it probably wouldnt be the right thing for you to do.

if you are worried about tatts afecting your job then you shouldnt get one, you shouldnt limit yourself when you want to do something like that. if you are afriad of that tattoos may not be for you and you may just be into the “hype” of getting a tattoo i would think about that

    dont get it

yeah you would just need to wear long sleeve shirts…which you probably would any way

Never had problems getting work and I have 2 full sleeves from shoulder to wrist of aliens and snarling beasts and currently work for a computer game design team.

There has been alot of talk about discrimination laws with employment and depending where you read, some say you can sue over it, some dont. A star hardly sounds like any trouble to me and I wouldnt worry about it.

The way I look at it, I am a decent guy – yes I have beasts growing on my arms but they are art and all art must be appreicated. I get 90 year grannies admiring my arms, have offended zero people and got nothing but compliments and if someone refuses to hire me because of my appearance, I consider that discrimination.

    Your body, Your rules.

I have a professional job and I have a small visible tattoo on my forearm. It’s not as big as a deal as it used to be. But it is easy to cover…just wear a long sleeve shirt.
