Perhaps it is that they have a budget they HAVE to follow and cannot increase your pay to that rate for another year. If it is part of a corporation, they may have rules they are following that are beyond their control. If you are comfortable at this job, it is close to home, that will make it close to school for your child, and you should consider which job will be considerate about you needing to take off for childhood illnesses and appointments, later for school, etc. But, if they just hold you off for the sake of saving money, better to leave. Good luck. Not an easy choice. One thing to ponder:

Assuming you are 35 years old and worked at four different jobs, the new employer would wonder if you really know what kind of a career you are seeking. And is this new opportunity really what you want to do or just make your resume look good. You may not like the working conditions either. You have a baby now to think about. The financial firm would be awesome because think about it you can always leave later or move closer at some point. 45 mins is really nothing now days to drive. 15 mins is good but the company is unethical! Just from what you've said, the company that you are eying is an Ivy league experience. And, despite the commute and whatever workload comes your way, you sound excited about this possibility. I say go with the new opportunity, even if it is a bit farther, it sounds like a much better company to work for.
