jenny b asked:
I am trying to decide whether or not to do this at uni, and I want to know what would be available as a future career if I do it.

That’s sounds like a good career choice but have a backup major because of the amount of ‘starving writers’.
With a solid foundation in writing, I think there are many great jobs out there for you.
1. Tech writing…offered through government contractors (NAVY mostly)
2. Travel/Special Edition Writer (submit your writings to local newspapers, national and regional magazines)
3. Blogger (why not???)
4. Get your Master’s and become a professor. Adjunct or Full time (College/University or Community College)
5. Teacher (Drama, Creative Writing, etc.)–Why not? The pay and benefits are good. And the demand is high!!!!!
6. SAT Tutor or Instructor (Reading, English and Essay Writing)–Why not? You can get paid for this.
I would strongly suggest having a minor of business or political science or science under your belt as well. It gives you added depth. Your resume will shine with more than one thing (writing) on it. Show potential employers that you are well rounded and abreast of many topics and can write vastly because your interests lie more than just in creative writing.
Also, keep a folder of all your articles submitted or not. Good luck.
