Narrow answer to your question...design and CAD/CAE are moving that way (joining Software/computer engineering). This includes things like solid modelling, FEA and general design/modelling/analysis. Notably a good chunk of the people doing it here are of foreign origin (typically Asian or Indian subcontinent). Although these are "core" engineering functions - to someone running a business they are often considered commodity services, and with today's software/communication networks they can credibly be managed as such.

All of them as people will not be paid to replace the second generation of inventions they will likely not choose the field of engineering to study.

Actually it doesn't matter. Losing jobs isn't important. Creating new jobs in new fields and filling them is more important. So, if say normal computer engineering is outsourced to India, then the US will create new computer engineering jobs using nanotech. You always want the old jobs being outsourced and creating the next generation of stuff in the country. You want to be Sony, not Audiovox.

The other good news is if you get your engineering degree then you are ready for any new type of job that is created. Engineering is more about learning how to think than stuffing your head with formulas.
