Possesion, and pipe, should he take diversion or fines, criminal record, & jobs in future?

My little brother was caught with weed the other day, and got a ticket for it.

It says use of drug equipment, and possession under one ounce.

His court date is in 2 weeks,
should he take diversion, or should he pay the fine.

We already know the fine will be about 100 dollars.

He’s 19.

How long will it stay on his record, & how will it affect
his future getting jobs?
It is his first time

well this should be treated as a misdemeanor and hopefully this is his first time. Maybe have him to plead guility and ask the judge if he could do community service. This should usually work and by completing the community service should wipe him clean. He could also get into drug counseling so when he goes to court the charges could be dropped because it shows he is trying to fix his life.
