Colleen asked:
I’m an 18 year old freshman in college, and I want to get my lip pierced. I don’t have a job currently and I don’t plan on getting one for at least a few months. By then, I’ll be able to put a clear plastic retainer in the hole to make the piercing less visible. Will that have a serious impact on my future job options?
My eventual career goal is laywer, but when I’m older I can always take the piercing out and see how much the hole closes up.

I don’t like to judge people on their appearances, but people always tend to do things I don’t like.. so here it goes: don’t do it. If you want to be a lawyer, start being professional and responsible now. If you want to be a store manager at Hot Topic, go ahead and get your piercings.
I am sorry to say this but not many places are going to want you to have a lip ring unless it is Spencer’s or Hot Topic. I suggest that you think about what goal you are working toward and decide if a lip ring fits in with that goal. You don’t see doctors and lawyers with lip rings do you? I would suggest you wait a while and think about it before you just jump into it. It does not make a good impresssion and any normal job interview and they will not want you to have it. They will either make you take it out or not hire you at all. I am not saying all jobs are like this, but truthfully, the majority are.
Instead of putting a ring in right when you get it, you can put a clear, organic acrylic plug, or even a flesh-colored “No-C-Um”(or something like that) plug. It can be hidden completely.
