And while we are at it, I do not know my credit score, but I know I have a few blemishes on it. Cell Phone and a bank, that I know of. How badly will that affect it? How can I fix it? Pay it off?

Credit effects the ability of employers to purchase or provide the resources employees need to be productive until the business begins to earn revenue and net profit from their employees productivity.
you need to do a credit check on yourself for this answer; and please do not share personal information about you with strangers.
The only way to fix it is pay it off, but you will still have a lower score for credit collection debts. Even though they are resolved, they will maintain on your record for up to 7 years variably. This does not mean your credit will be entirely ruined but will have a negative impact on your credit score.
Here is an old saying that I used to hear from my parents:
“It takes only one time to mess it up and seven years to fix it.”
There is a lot you can do about your credit. It is a long painstaking journey but it can be repaired.
Hope this helps

You answered your own question. Pay it off and write the creditor a reasonable, valid, explanation. It helps. There are those that you can forget though such as national banks etc. they are on computer records and are automated. You are compelled to hire a “Credit Restorer” for a fee that varies between $150.+/-. up to (?). I am aware of these conditions after helping a niece restore her damaged credit. It cost her $195.00 but the guy did a pretty good job for the money. This one was based out of Tampa, Fla. The only way to avoid Credit is to always pay cash/check, but in today’s world; credit is almost a necessity.
Good luck and I hope this may help. It can be frustrating. One more clue–You can maintain absolute perfect credit for 20+years; be late or miss payments twice and your credit goes to hell in a hand baskett! Truth!
