Will I have a lesser chance of being hired as an attorney because of my plain looks?

Carolina P asked:

As a freshman in college, I have decided to pursue a career as legal counsel for a firm.
Sadly, even though I exude confidence in terms of my intelligence and ideas, maintain a healthy physique, and dress well, I’m only slightly attractive young woman.
Studies show that attractive people have a higher chance of being hired, while plain people are left in the dust.
Will my plain looks affect my future despite my positive nature?

Will clerking for a judge or serving as a staff attorney for a federal court help or hurt my career?

These jobs require mainly research. I want to go into private practice (solo or for a firm) in a few years, so I don’t know if these 2 yr appointments to clerk/staff attorney will help or hurt my job prospects in the future. I graduated from law school a yr ago, and was a solo practitioner for about 6 months. I want to switch for now.

is the biggest law firm here, and I can’t be happier. However, I had also given my CV to other law firms, and one of which called me today telling me I had an interview tomorrow.
I know that I do NOT wanna go! Should I go even though if I get accepted I wouldn’t wanna go there?
Another thing is, I dont wanna lose them as potential future hiring place. Meaning that, I’m afraid if I tell them NO now, and later on for any reason I wish to go there, they will refuse on grounds that I rejected them before.
Can this latter thing happen or am I being paranoid?
If it makes any difference, I’m not in the USA.

I am currently looking to find another position either in the legal(currently I am a legal secretary) or corporate hedge fund/investment industries. The purpose of this move is to find a company that sponsers my future plans to obtain an mba. Are there any corporate law firms that help fund a Masters in Business Administration or should i just look into hedge fund companies/businesses? Also does anyone know how these hedge fund companies work, I see the perks and benefits but what are the cons?

Is it ok to use a potential future employer as a reference? I.e. the person who will be interviewing you?

I do work as an outside consultant. A position has opened up within a firm I have worked with extensively. I’d like to use their Director as a reference but she is also the person who will be interviewing me and deciding if I’m fit for the job. Is this ethical? She is well aware of my past work and can speak very positively for what I’ve done.

darkhat032 asked:

If a software developer (or web service firm) creates a product or online service (such as an application, or a service like YouTube or MySpace), lawyers need to write all of the Terms of Use and conditions legal documents, as well as assist in future partnerships with other companies.

Is anyone out there either a lawyer who has experience in this field or has developed web applications or personal computer software that can reference a firm or a place to find one?

Prospect for a future lawyer?

Akrum asked:

I am about to be a Government Sophomore at UT Austin and I just read an article about how several law firms around the nation are getting rid of hourly billing and how this change has come about. I have always had a fundamental interest in law and would like to become a lawyer in the future. But I was wondering about what lawyers in the future should expect. Does it get easier along the way. Aside from personal experiences, is it a relatively enjoyable career. With this change in some law firms, is it still an expectation to make a good living?
Thank you for all of your answers. This has quite possibly ruined my night. I was so naive to think through the years that lawyers have it easy and that money is just shoved down their throats for easy work, but this has shown me the actuality of the situation. I always thought that my career choice would lead me to enjoy financial security from the beginning but im starting to think otherwise. I think ive decided not to graduate college early at this moment right here. It seems that the real world is too brutal and that college is the protective shell that I need right now. Hopefully I will end up with the job that gives me everything I need but i guess law will not do that for me. And it is a shame. All of these years I thought I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I guess not. Thank you
