im fresh out of college and have little sales experience. im smart and personable, but wonder how long it takes to make decent money as a futures and commodities broker. it is all comission with no health benefits. other jobs im looking at are like 38,000 with benefits and more of a set work schedule.

First off, in sales … Commissions is where the REAL money is. You might get with a firm to learn the ropes a little better and then hit the ground running when you’ve got a little more experience under your belt.
Can you make good money? That’s totally up to you.
Commission-only salespeople have the potential to make lots of money but also have the potential to not make any. It’s all up to you, how persistent you are, how impervious you are to being told “No!” over and over and over, and how well you learn from your mistakes, and how you are at setting and attaining goals, how much extra time you’re willing to put in to learn what you need to learn to succeed, etc.
Finding a good mentor also helps.
By the way, all commodities firms are not the same. The commission deal you get in one firm can be completely different than what you’ll be offered in others.
You’re success and level of success is totally up to you.
