In Australia, there are many jobs that are very strict on past abuse of substances or drug overdoses – for example, police force, military, etc.
However, ironically, it is still possible to enter medical or nursing careers with past history of drug overdose. In some cases it may be that the potential employee must undergo an extra period of supervised work.
In cases I have known where medical students have been caught attempting to obtain drugs, they have been expelled from the course. However, past history of depression or attemped ******* would not prevent you from enrolling in a university degree course such as Medicine or Nursing, nor would it stop you from practicing in many places in Australia.
